About Us

The Del Valle Opportunity Center is an alternative high school of choice that specializes in personalized instruction and academic acceleration. Our campus offers student-centered learning that is paced according to student needs, not according to grading periods. Students are eligible to graduate at any point in the school year once graduation requirements have been met. Attendance and self-motivation are necessary for student success at DVOC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do DVOC graduates earn a standard diploma or a GED?

We are a fully accredited high school. Our students graduate with the same diploma as a traditional high school. We do not offer a GED program.

What are graduation requirements?

Students must complete the State of Texas High School Program and may graduate under the Foundation plan (22 credits) or the Distinguished Achievement Program (26 credits). In addition, students must pass 5 STAAR EOC exams. Together with our academic counselor,  students and their parents develop a Personalized Graduation Plan that best fits their post-secondary goals and future goals.

What are classes like at DVOC?

Class sizes are small so that our teachers can work closely with students. The format of instruction at the Opportunity Center depends, based on the type of course. A student who is missing a STAAR EOC will participate in a STAAR prep class that will include lots of guided practice with teacher-led instruction. Other classes, such as accrual (newly earned credits), are self-paced with teacher support. Students are also able to recover credits for previously attempted courses through Edgenuity, our online curriculum.

Do students have to attend every day?

Per the State of Texas, students must be in attendance 90% of the time. We work hard to find flexible options that allow students with extenuating circumstances to be in school.

Are students able to have a half day schedule?

Students who are making acceptable progress toward graduation can be considered for shortened school day schedules, not less than 3 classes.

Can students enroll at DVOC and then return to DVHS to graduate?
Dual high school enrollment is not permitted. Students who are accepted and enroll at DVOC have their own graduation.

Is the Opportunity Center a disciplinary campus?

No. DVOC is an academic school of choice. All of our students choose to be a part of our campus because it is a fit for their needs. The district disciplinary campus is the Del Valle DAEP (District Alternative Education Program).
